Comodo is very difficult to understand their SSL Process. They offer a FREE for 90 Certificate. When attempting to purchase, the FEE was not updated to paid but an entirely new CERT issued, different than the one in operation. Communication and understanding their processes are very difficult. Language is extremely difficult if you are expecting to speak with someone who speaks American English. The overall attitude it condenscending. Support personnel talk when they should listen. They don't address questions and instructions are very difficult at best. Learn Hindi or whatever before expecting support from COMODO.

Horrible Support

I purchased Code Sign Certificate and validation process was a nightmare. Support tech told me that he couldn't find my organization phone number. So he told me to update it on "Yellow/White" Pages??? I hung up and called back again. This time I was told that the validation phone number wasn't listed on D&B DUNS. I had enough of comodo. So deciding to move on.

Took our money to purchase a SSL certificate. Refused to give us the certificate even after giving all documentation as they wanted us to pay to updated over 15 different online listings that had previous company names. Went to a competitor and received a higher level wildcard certificate in 15 minutes.

It took almost two months, around 20 emails and days and days of wasted time to get my code signing certificate. Really, trust me, don't do it, unless you enjoy dealing with witless idiots.

Renewal Sucks

I answered the above questions b/c this system doesn't allow you not to, which is bad b/c I didn't have most of the experiences listed. That said, here is my experience with Comodo. I get Comodo through Hostgator. Every year you have to renew, apparently. I recv'd email saying it expired. Don't remember getting renewal information, but could have. However, went to renew and the form and system is antiquated. I didn't recall setting up an account so tried to enter information as "new." Got message that "parameter not met." Hit the back button and all the information I entered was gone. Tried 2 times entering information and as existing account. Nothing. And there are no options for help. It's a stupid system and yet they are supposed to be protecting the website. Scary. Also blame Host Gator for not making renewal automatic with current accounts. Wouldn't buy anything from Comodo based on this experience.

I purchased a Comodo PositiveSSL cert through a reseller who offered it for considerably less money than buying direct from Comodo. The process was straightforward: submit a CSR, answer a confirmation email sent to a domain contact address, and the cert was issued. The whole process took around 15 minutes. Added perk: Comodo will sign your cert using SHA2 (with all SHA2-signed intermediate certs chaining back to the root) if one adds the appropriate flag ("-sha256") to OpenSSL when generating a private key/CSR. For example, this command will generate a 2048-bit RSA key and request a SHA256 signature: "openssl req -new -newkey rsa:2048 -nodes -sha256 -out www.mydomain.com.sha256.csr -keyout www.mydomain.key"

I was a bit worried about ordering certificate after reading these reviews. However, everything went very smoothly. I used ssls.com to order the certificate, submitted the CSR, and I had my certificate delivered in less than an hour. At 5$ a year, nothing can really compare to this. I cannot comment on the customer service since I never needed it.

SSL Expiration - "Voyage Into The Pit of Hell"

Our certificate expired, even though we paid our host, who handles our certificate, the day of our notice. Yes,minor solace, we received an apology. None the less, our site was down for days, we spent many hours trying to resolve, plus our app was not able to properly access the server. In short, we were Out of Business!Dead in the water. Kaput! Last week's fried chicken. Well, you get the idea. We also had to temporarily switch to HTTP instead of HTTPS, resend HTTP versions of our app to Beta testers, etc., etc. All this at very considerable time and expense. All of this could have been easily avoided if we had been able to pay for the SSL Certificate in advance. For instance, a two-year payment. Also, one would think that Comodo would require host providers to "provide" a means to notify SSL Certificate holders, i.e., website owners in advance of an expiration. The party who holds the certificate should be able to receive advance notification directly from Comodo and make payment directly to Comodo. It is entirely unacceptable to have all these problems over a $50 certificate!

UCC renewal process is terrible

I've been complaining to them for years but they never fix it. When you go into your management site to manage certificates you can see your UCC cert and there is a link to renew but then UCC isn't offered as a renewal type. They say "It's because it's a different product". Ok, fine, fix the link to renew the "different product". This is really inexcusable and isn't helping the customer.

AVOID this company at all costs, they verified my company office and then used my home address, and after 2 months of talking to call center in India every other day with countless emails still not resolved. When I test my EV-SSL on this site it tells me to also install a chain certificate as well. They also completely lie to customers about expecting follow up emails from anybody other then the "Validation"team.

Do not do business with these people. I don't know how you can run a successful company and be this incompetent. They don't listen and they don't respond. Their tech support reps are incomprehensible, and their support website is broken. The process to get a signing certificate is impossible to complete in California unless you can find a notary who is willing to break the law. Their turnaround time to send out a code signing certificate is on the order of three weeks when it should have been completed in three days. Because of their slowness, I lost $2400 and 6 months worth of work. Do not rely on Comodo unless you are willing to put up with incompetence and it doesn't matter how long it takes for you to get what you have paid for.
